2.2 Improving the Athlete Experience

Currently, athletes have no tools to directly engage fans.

Many athletes fear that spending too much time in building their presence in a community may detract from their performance, whereas others believe that spending too little time worsens their brand and reputation. Consequently, many athletes turn to agents, advertising agencies, and large corporations who look to extract maximum revenue from the fans rather than create a personal and sustainable relationship with them. According to the NCAA, only 7% of the total NCAA revenue ends up going to college athletes (including scholarships). Thus, athletes lose a massive amount of revenue because of a lack of tools to interact with fans.

VO2 gives athletes tools to develop their own brand: without third parties, on their own terms. Moreover, many athletes worry that partnering with agents will begin to dilute the quality of their social media and tarnish their brand image. Thus, athletes would benefit from a platform that enables them to directly reach their fans and choose their favorite methods of engaging with them.
